Solar Eclipse Superstitions, Beliefs and Spells

The solar eclipses, astronomical events explained scientifically long time ago, continue to be faced with subjectivity in different places of the earth, according to established superstitions, customs, traditions, and even spells … Regardless of education,  these spectacular changes from the sky  caused many people to throw away logical explanations and  to cling to lore, myths and superstitions that have crossed centuries or millennia.

- Resounding screams and cries were the means by which people from ancient Rome tried to cast out the demons who overshadowed the solar disk.

- In many regions, it was believed that eclipses occur when the sun is attacked by evil mythological creatures: a giant turtle in Vietnam, a jaguar in Latin America, a dragon in Asia, a werewolf in Romania.

Hair Superstitions and Spells

Between the most important features of our physical appearance, hair is one of the first places to which your gaze when you meet someone for the first time. If the tone or the color of the hair  instinctively seem to provide us a subjective first impression, its density and texture suggests, usually youth, health and attractiveness, while hair loss is associated with old age and disease. Therefore, it is not surprising that the capillary adornment  gave birth in ancient times, to various legends and superstitions ...

- They say that if you want to prevent headaches during the year, you should to have a haircut on Good Friday (Easter Friday).
- Reddish women, like Cleopatra and Queen Elizabeth I, are often irritable or nervous. Dark brown or black hair denotes strength, while light brown hair proves, often,  shyness.
- If a man has a scanty hair around the forehead , he will get a long life. If a woman's hair is characterized by a swirl  above the forehead, she will survive her husband. If, suddenly, a woman's hair creases above the forehead, her husband does not have much longer to live.

Full Moon in Superstitions, Beliefs and Spells


Magical and mysterious atmosphere created by the full moon has always been inspired fears, hopes, superstitions, beliefs, legends and spells, which sometimes continue to mark us today, despite our claim of being rational or logical. The full moon was associated, over time, with murders, suicides, mental illness, natural disasters, accidents, birth rate, women fertility, witchcraft and werewolves. Here are some of these beliefs, superstitions and spells ...

Greek philosopher Aristotle and Roman historian Plinius the Elder considered the brain as "wet" organ of the body,  seemed to be extremely exposed to the harmful effects of the Moon, like the flows and tidal over the seas.

Beliefs in the "lunar effect", "Transylvania effect", or  lycanthropy (mentioned  in the ancient Greece), marked all the countries of Europe in the medieval times, consisting of men turning  into werewolves or vampires in the night with  full moons.

It was said that witches spells and incantations were performed in the nights with full moon, because that moon was believed to bring  a major influence on human body and mind. However, sometimes, witches could be seen flying in the night skies marked by  full moon. Black magic and devil worship were, they say, usual activities in the full moon nights.

The full moon gives a very favorable energy for divination. If you keep a moonstone in the mouth during of a full moon night , you have the power to see what awaits you in the future.

Another old superstition warned that women who stare at the full moon or let its rays touche their bodies are exposed  to the risk of become pregnant. Moreover, it was believed that some of them could give birth to monsters!

If you increase you luck in marriage, you must to marry in a day with full moon.

Children born in a full moon night are very healthy and strong. In fact, many people believe that the full moon help women give birth easily, without pain. Some even claimed that in such periods were born more children than usual.

If you blow nine times over a wart when it is full moon, the wart will disappear like magic.

A full moon heralds Christmas mishaps.

During the full moon try to avoid argues with neighbors, because such quarrels  will cause you much trouble.

You'll fail if you try to steal in the third day after full moon.

Never sleep under the full moon because it leads to illness or even death.

If you're broke and you need a lot of money, wait a full moon, then come out under its rays, open wide your pocket or wallet and say 9  times "Fill it up." Within few days, the money will be rushing over you!
In fact, in ancient times, men  believed that the moon is made of silver, having the power to attract money. The full moon was especially favorable, because it was richer and more generous.

In Feng Shui, the energy of the full moon is ideal to rid us of things which prevent the development of our self, whether it's about people, things, circumstances, or attitudes. In this context, it is best to make order and clean the house, to banish anger and forgive people, quit smoking or to put an end to an unhappy love relationship.
